Today’s post showcases original artwork by Shania Marie. I am inspired and in awe of Shania’s words and attitude towards scoliosis with regards to her journey. Thank you, Shania, for blessing us with the gift of your art that brings hope and encouragement to the world.
The story behind Shania’s art in her words
“The story behind this piece is inspired directly from the Greek’s influence on societal standards of beauty. I am sure most people are familiar with Greek statues in museums depicting the idealized human form. In my piece I decided to depict my own condition of scoliosis, the unnatural curvature of the spine with no known cause. I made this decision because everyday we come across people from all walks of life, which can actually cause clashes between us due to the fact that we are different, and some of us see different as wrong or incorrect, and even sometimes unacceptable. I fully believe that we grow as a person when we expose our comfort zones and learn to accept things that are different or unusual from ourselves.
In today’s world there is an expectation to not only look a certain way but to be a perfect person, walk the straight and narrow and make the best decisions, but as we all know- being human is far from being perfect.”
Wow. These words are spoken with such maturity and grace! I love seeing strong women find truth and meaning to help the rest of us expand our ability to understand and relate to each other.
